Skiing and Snowboarding

Experience 211 kilometers of slopes in the Jungfrau Region with spectacular Alpine views. The Jungfrau ski pass covers the entire region, is available at the reception, and allows for a quick start to your skiing adventure. Discounts are available for children, teenagers, and seniors.

 

Grindelwald-First

The Grindelwald-First ski area is just a 25-minute ride on the First gondola, located only a 3-minute walk from the hotel. Enjoy 55 km of sun-drenched slopes, a snow park for freestyle enthusiasts, and cozy après-ski bars.

 

Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen

With 101 km of slopes suitable for all skill levels, Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen is the largest ski area in the Jungfrau Region, offering breathtaking views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. This is also where the famous Lauberhorn World Cup downhill race to Wengen begins.

 

Mürren-Schilthorn

The Mürren-Schilthorn ski area, reaching up to 3,000 meters above sea level, is the highest in the Bernese Oberland and guarantees snow reliability on its 55 km of slopes well into spring. Before your first descent, treat yourself to a coffee or the legendary 007 brunch at the revolving restaurant Piz Gloria, offering a stunning 360° Alpine panorama.

 

Grindelwald Bodmi

Bodmi is the perfect place for beginners and families. A special highlight is night skiing on Wednesdays and Thursdays until 7:00 PM.

The name says it all – Grindelwald First is your gateway to pure mountain adventure!

Dare to cross the dizzying First Cliff Walk, a suspension bridge with stunning views and heart-pounding heights. Then pick up speed: with the First Flyer or First Glider, you’ll soar at up to 80 km/h (50 mph) from First to Schreckfeld. Still not enough? Race down the mountain with Mountain Carts or Trottibikes for even more thrills.

Prefer a slower pace? Take a scenic one-hour hike from First to the magical Bachalpsee, a tranquil alpine lake that turns into a mirror on windless days – a dream come true for photographers.

And the best part? The gondola up to First is just a 2-minute walk from our hotel.

Grindelwald is a paradise for sledding enthusiasts and non-skiers who still want to experience thrilling descents.

 

Big Pintenfritz

The world’s longest sled run, “Big Pintenfritz,” stretches 15 km from the Faulhorn at 2,680 m above sea level. After a scenic winter hike, enjoy breathtaking views before descending 1,600 meters in altitude to Bussalp and Grindelwald.

 

Night Sledding on Bussalp

You can shorten the route by starting from Bussalp. The Grindelwald Bus runs daily, including evening rides on the weekends for night sledding. Before heading down, treat yourself to a fondue at the mountain restaurant. A headlamp is recommended!

 

Eiger Run

From Alpiglen to Brandegg, this fast-paced sled run guarantees excitement – even at night on the weekends, thanks to the illuminated track. The Wengernalp Railway provides regular return trips.

The Pfingstegg cable car is just an easy 8-minute walk from our hotel. In summer, it takes you up to the sunny Mettenberg hill at 1,387 m (4,550 ft), where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views over Grindelwald and magical moments in the evening sun.
Looking for fun? Ride the thrilling summer toboggan run back down to the valley – a hit for both kids and adults!

Pfingstegg is also the starting point for two highly recommended hikes: the panoramic trail to Hotel Wetterhorn and the scenic route to Berghaus Bäregg.

Grindelwald Sports Center

The artificial ice rink at Nordwandplatz offers ice skating, ice hockey, curling, and an ice stock sport area, as well as a curling hall with four rinks (October–March). Public skating times can be found on the notice boards or at the reception. One-third of the ice surface is reserved for ice hockey. Even in bad weather, ice sports provide plenty of fun, for example, with regular introductory curling courses. With the Grindelwald guest card, you can enjoy discounts on various offers at the sports center.

 

Open-Air Ice Rink Wengen

In the car-free village of Wengen, you can skate on the artificial ice rink in the village center. Over Christmas and New Year, an additional natural ice rink is available when weather conditions allow. The Wengernalp Railway conveniently takes you from Grindelwald to Wengen.

Explore over 10 km of trails with two routes starting in Grindelwald Grund: a 4 km track along the Schwarze Lütschine to Schwendi, or a 7 km loop to the Glacier Gorge.

 

Lauterbrunnen

A 12 km trail leads from Lauterbrunnen past the Trümmelbach Falls and the Schilthornbahn valley station to Stechelberg, offering breathtaking views of frozen waterfalls and a snowy wonderland.

One of the top hiking experiences? The trail from Bussalp to the First Bort station – a scenic gem and pure joy for every hiker.

At 2,970 m (9,744 ft), the Schilthorn is the highest peak in the Bernese Pre-Alps. From Grindelwald, it’s easy to reach via public transportation: take the train to Lauterbrunnen, then a bus to Stechelberg, where the Schilthorn cable car begins its ascent.

The journey itself is a highlight – especially in summer, when countless waterfalls cascade down the steep cliffs of the Lauterbrunnen Valley.


Once at the top, enjoy a unique perspective on the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau – and on clear days, your view stretches all the way to Mont Blanc.

Eiger Snowshoe Trail

A moderately difficult tour starting from the Holenstein mid-station (Männlichen gondola). The 5.4 km, red-marked trail offers stunning views of the Eiger North Face and passes traditional alpine huts and the Tschuggen ski slope before reaching the Brandegg mountain restaurant.

 

Panorama Snowshoe Trail

A 7 km tour (approx. 3.5 hours) starting from Bussalp. After 300 meters on the sledding trail, the path leads via Restaurant Rasthysi through snowfields and a winter forest to the First cable car station at Bort – complete with a sun terrace!

 

Wetterhorn Trails

Trail 1 (Easy, 1.5 km, 1 hour): A circular route from Hotel Wetterhorn towards Oberer Gletscher, passing through forests and meadows.

Trail 2 (Moderate, 2 hours): Follows the Wetterhorn, passing the Ischbodenhütte, the bird park, and Unterer Lauchbühl, with a gentle descent back to the starting point.

Männlichen – Kleine Scheidegg Hike

One of the most scenic winter hikes with stunning views of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau starts at Männlichen. The two-hour trail leads to Kleine Scheidegg, passing through the protected Arven Forest with ancient Swiss stone pines. A 30-minute ascent completes the route. For an extra panoramic view, take a short detour to the Männlichen summit from the mountain station.

 

Bussalp – Bort Winter Hike

Hike from Bussalp to Bort for stunning winter scenery. The Grindelwald bus takes you to Bussalp, where a scenic trail passes Rasthysi restaurant and winds through a snowy forest. At Bort, relax on the Berghaus Bort terrace with a meal before returning to Grindelwald on foot or via Firstbahn. More trails are available in the First area or along the Lütschine River. Check reception for maps and conditions.
